Moving from Strong: a Strong alternative that keeps your whole history

Strong was many lifters’ first real log, and plenty of them bought a lifetime years ago. If yours still does what you need, keep it. People move when the lifetime they bought turns out not to cover the features they want, when the free plan’s caps start to bite, or when they want more from the numbers than a chart: a coach that sets the next weight, or an assistant that can read the log. GymYuz does those, keeps a lifetime on sale, and imports Strong’s export in one step.
Export from Strong
In Strong, open settings and choose the export option. Strong writes a CSV named strong.csv. Save it off the phone, to cloud storage or your computer, and keep that original file as it is. If an import ever goes wrong, you start again from it.
Keep Strong installed, and keep the account, until the two-week check below is done.
Import into GymYuz
In GymYuz, open You, then Data, then Import from another app, and choose Strong. Pick strong.csv. The import runs on the phone and uploads nothing. At the end it tells you how many sessions came in.
What carries over from the Strong file:
- Every workout with its date and name.
- Every set with weight and reps, in kilograms or pounds as Strong wrote them.
- Set types: Strong marks warm-ups, drop sets and failure sets in the notes column, and GymYuz reads them, so warm-ups stay out of your volume and records.
- Set notes.
- Durations, for timed sets.
What does not carry over, because Strong’s file does not hold it: routines and templates, and Strong’s own measurements screen. Rebuild the few templates you use; GymYuz can also build them for you from the imported history through the coach or your assistant.
Check three workouts
Open one workout from last week, one from a month ago and one from at least six months ago, in both apps, and compare the date, the exercises, and each set’s weight and reps. The oldest one is the one most likely to show a unit problem, so check kg against lb there first.
Next, scan the exercise list for the same lift under two names, such as “Squat (Barbell)” and “Barbell Back Squat”. Common Strong names map to the GymYuz catalogue; a custom exercise keeps its Strong name. Pick one name and use it from now on, because records and strength curves are built per exercise.
Keep Strong for two weeks
Log in GymYuz and keep Strong as a reference for two weeks. That is six or so sessions, enough to notice a missing field or a slower screen and to decide. If GymYuz is not for you, nothing is lost: Strong and the original file are still there, and GymYuz exports in Strong’s own format.
After the two weeks, export from Strong once more so nothing logged there in between is missed, and archive it with the first file.
About the lifetime
The thing Strong’s longtime users ask first: is there a lifetime, and will it hold. GymYuz sells a Founders lifetime at $99 for the first 500 buyers or the first 90 days after launch, whichever comes first, then a lifetime at $149. Both cover every future Pro feature: the coach, sync and backup, your training in ChatGPT and Claude. The logger itself stays free either way, with no account and no caps.
