Hevy vs Strong vs GymYuz: an honest comparison for lifters

Hevy and Strong are the two logs most lifters have used, and both are good at the core job: sets, reps, weight, history. GymYuz is built by people who used both. This page says where the three agree, where they differ, and which one fits which lifter. Prices are what the stores showed in October 2026; check them before you decide, since they change.
The short version
- Hevy is the social one: a feed, friends’ workouts, a trainer built into its subscription. Good if you want other people in your log.
- Strong is the plain one: fast logging, a long history of stability, a lifetime purchase that longtime users bought years ago and still mention in reviews.
- GymYuz is the one that reads your log back to you: an on-device coach that picks the weight for each set from your own training, your training in ChatGPT and Claude, a free logger with no account, and voice on the gym floor.
If you log and look at the numbers yourself, all three work. If you want the numbers to come to you, in the app, in your assistant or in your ear, that is what GymYuz is for.
What the free plan includes
| Hevy | Strong | GymYuz | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logging, history, personal records | Yes | Yes | Yes, unlimited |
| Routines on the free plan | Capped | Capped | Unlimited |
| Analysis | Basic; more on the subscription | Basic; more on the subscription | Full: volume bands, trend fit, load ratio, recovery, PRs |
| Account required | Yes | Yes | No; the logger works without one |
| Ads | No | No | No, and no analytics by default |
| Export | CSV | CSV | CSV, a full ZIP with media, and Hevy and Strong formats |
| Watch | Yes | Yes | Apple Watch and Wear OS |
The point of the GymYuz free tier is simple: everything that runs on the phone is free, with no cap on routines or history. Pro pays for the parts that need a server or a coach: sync across devices, the AI assistant, the coach.
What Pro costs
| Hevy | Strong | GymYuz | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yearly | Subscription | $29.99 | $49.99, with a 7-day trial |
| Lifetime | $74.99 | $99.99 | $99 for the first 500 Founders, then $149 |
| What it adds | Trainer, more analysis, more routines | More analysis, more routines, Apple Watch extras | The coach, sync and backup, your training in ChatGPT and Claude |
GymYuz is the most expensive yearly of the three on purpose: the subscription carries a coach and an AI connection, not an unlock of features the free plan holds back. If you only want a logger, GymYuz is the cheapest, because that part costs nothing.
Where GymYuz is different
- Your training in your AI assistant. Connect once, and ChatGPT or Claude can read your log, build routines and the weekly plan after a preview, and log a set when you say done. Neither Hevy nor Strong offers a connection to the assistants. The guide GymYuz in your AI assistant covers what it can see and what it never sees.
- A coach that runs on the phone. The right weight for every set, from your own sets, offline, with no training data sent anywhere.
- Voice. It reads the next set out loud; you press your earbud button and say done. The phone stays in the bag.
- No account needed. Log for years without signing up. An account only matters when you want sync or the assistant.
Where Hevy or Strong is the better fit
- You want a feed of friends’ workouts and comments: Hevy.
- You already paid for a lifetime years ago and the app still does what you need: Strong, and there is no reason to move.
- You coach clients and want the trainer tools built into the same app: Hevy.
Moving your history
Your history moves in either direction. GymYuz imports Hevy’s workout_data.csv and Strong’s strong.csv directly, keeps warm-up sets as warm-ups and RPE where the file carries it, and exports in Hevy and Strong formats if you ever leave. The step-by-step is in how to switch workout apps without losing your history, with the two-week rule that keeps the move safe.
